The Lull Before the Storm

This post has been edited to include the url for Vince's Masters Picks post.

I'm planning to start a new swing series next week after the Masters, but today I thought I'd post a few personal thoughts before the first round of the first men's major of the year.

First of all, which "swing" are we in? We used to have the "Florida Swing," but now that's changed to the "Southern Swing" (I appreciate them naming it after me). The question is, when does the Southern Swing end? We're going to be bouncing back and forth along the southeast coast for the next few weeks until the "Texas Swing" starts at the Valero Texas Open in May. I'm guessing we'll be in the Southern Swing till then, but if you know for sure, be sure to add a comment at the end of this post. I don't want to post my "Complete Southern Swing Limerick Summary" too early, you know.

On a sad note, Ray Floyd, at 67, has decided he won't be playing the Masters this year. Another great player who feels he can't play the longer Augusta track... I hate that.

On the upside, Jack Nicklaus is joining Arnold Palmer as honorary starters. I'm sure it's only going to be a matter of time before Gary Player is asked to join them, and we'll get to see "The Big 3" at Augusta again. That will be cool... but this is pretty good for now.

Vince over at One-Eyed Golfer is posting a list of Masters picks by some of us in the blogging community today. Make sure you skip over and take a look. Just for the record, I did NOT pick Tiger to win; I'm expecting another Top 10 from him, but not much more.

Finally, don't forget that ESPN is broadcasting the Par-3 tournament today at 3PM Eastern. Apparently winning this baby is considered a curse, as no Par-3 winner has ever won the Masters in the same year. You fantasy golf players will want to take note, as it may eliminate a possibly wasted choice! ;-)
