O'Hair and Foley Split

You may have already heard, but I thought it was still worth mentioning...

Sean O'Hair has split from his now-famous teacher Sean Foley -- not because he's had trouble getting time with Foley since the addition of Tiger or the growing fame of Foley's other students, but because he's not playing well. If you check PGATOUR.com, you'll see that O'Hair has missed 6 cuts this year, including the last 5 in a row.

O'Hair had already let two caddies go, and now his teacher's got the axe as well. I guess he figures something needs to change if he's going to get his game back on track. That's the general response the pros have to such problems -- it's why so many of them change putters like underwear.

Learn this lesson well, grasshopper. Be glad you don't have a ton of money to spend on specialists to "fix" your game... because sometimes you can buy an improvement to your game, but you can't buy confidence. That's one area where the pros are no better off than you!

Apparently Sean O'Hair no longer believes he's on the right track despite past success with the Foley method, and now he's looking for a change to try and jumpstart things. Sometimes a change works, sometimes it doesn't. It may be that Sean merely needs a better understanding of what he naturally tends to do when he swings rather than a whole new approach. And given that almost all of his stats are off from last year, I'm not so sure that the problem is just mechanical.

At any rate, I guess we'll find out soon enough if this is going to work or just leave him more confused. Good luck, Sean.
