"...play the ball two inches back of center in your stance and make a half- or three-quarter swing. Dave goes into considerable detail about how to choose the direction of your punch, which he says is at least as important as the mechanics. The photo above comes from this section of the article, and I should note that the two ball positions are for clarity. The ball in front of his club is his normal ball position while the ball behind the club is his punch position.
