Winner: Max Homa
Around the wider world of golf: Robert MacIntyre won the DS Automobiles Italian Open on the DP World Tour; Andrea Lee won the AmazingCre Portland Classic on the LPGA; Ines Laklalech made history by becoming the first Moroccan, first Arab and first North African woman to win an LET title at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France; Steve Stricker won the Sanford International on the Champions Tour; Maria Torres won the Guardian Championship on the Epson Tour; Wil Bateman won the Fortinet Cup Championship on the Mackenzie Tour; and Wynand Dingle won the Vodacom Origins of Golf on the Sunshine Tour.
Going back to the PGA for my Twofer Tuesday picks didn't help me any. I had Justin Suh (MC) and Taylor Pendrith (T67). Sigh...
- Top10s: 25 for 96 (16 Top5, 9 Top10)
- Winners: 3 for 47
- Top20s: 40 for 96
Look, you guys may wonder about my Limerick Summary today but you have to understand that when I hear the word Napa I don't think about wine.
I think about cabbage.
Granted, Napa cabbage is a type of Chinese cabbage and has no relationship to the Napa Valley region of California. But given the conditions during Sunday's final round at the Fortinet, I think cabbage is the perfect word. In fact, the TripSavvy golf slang website defines cabbage as "The rough, especially thick, deep rough."
Yes, while Danny Willett had an unexpected hiccup on the smooth grass of the 18th green (bad weather can do all kinds of stuff to your concentration), Max Homa was chipping the ball out of the wet cabbage and in for a birdie to successfully defend his 2021 Fortinet title.
I guess you could call this a good way to prepare for the Presidents Cup next week. It's amazing how much confidence another Limerick Summary can give you!
Next week he’ll join Rory in Roma,
But this week he sure felt at Homa!
Two wins at this venue;
I guess it works when you
Find cabbage a pleasant aroma!
