After rounds of 63-66 Rose tied the tournament record for 36 holes. I know that doesn't mean a whole lot, as Phil demonstrated last week. Still, you have to like Justin's chances with a three-stroke lead on a tough course. (The last two rounds will be played on Torrey's South Course, the harder of the two and the place where he shot 66 Friday.)
Hideki Matsuyama, finally feeling better from all his injuries, is only three back. The trio of Ryan Palmer, Billy Horschel and Jon Rahm (my other pick last week) are five back. And we all know that anything can happen at Torrey.
But this weekend the winds are supposed to be about the same as they were on Friday and the temperature is expected to drop slightly. These are the kind of tough conditions that Justin Rose thrives in -- conditions where par is a great score.
I sure wouldn't bet against him this weekend. Just wish I'd waited a week before I picked him to win a tournament.
