Before They Go to Japan...

The LPGA has a little unfinished business in Evian-les-Bains, France.

2019 defending champion Jin Young Ko

The Amundi Evian Championship couldn't be played last year, but this year it will be played... a mere week before the women head off to the Japan Olympics. And make no mistake about it, the Olympians plan to play at Evian this week.

A warmup?

2019 defending champion -- and Korean Olympian -- Jin Young Ko is there. Rolex #1 Nelly Korda is there. Defending gold medalist Inbee Park is there.

Next week the women are scheduled to play the ISPS Handa World Invitational. I don't know how many will play that event as it's held in Northern Ireland. However, it's a new event that is jointly sponsored by the LPGA, the LET and the European Tour -- yes, it's a mixed event featuring both men and women. I suspect the women will think long and hard before they choose to skip it.

But the very next week is the women's Olympic golf competition. This stretch could be quite the warmup for Japan!

GC's coverage is broken up into two parts on Thursday. The first session runs 5am-7am ET, the second session from 9:30am-11:30am ET. There's also a bit of streaming coverage on GC, from 7am to 8am and from 11:30am till noon. This will be a very challenging stretch for the ladies so we should see some good golf this week.
