Winner: Sam Burns
Around the wider world of golf: Eun-Hee Ji won the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play; Steven Alker won the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship on the Champions Tour; Victor Perez won the Dutch Open on the DP World Tour; Harry Hall won the NV5 Invitational on the Korn Ferry Tour; José de Jesús Rodríguez won the Jalisco Open GDL on the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica; Gina Kim won the Inova Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship on the Epson Tour; Deon Germishuys won the Sishen Classic on the Sunshine Tour; Yoon Ji Jeong won the KLPGA's E1 Charity Open; Sakura Koiwai won the JLPGA's Resort Trust Ladies; Jihyo Yang won the KPGA's KB Financial Live Championship; and Scott Vincent won the Japan Golf Tour's Mizuno Open. [Thanks, IC!]
And my Twofer Tuesday picks are back to their old shenanigans. I had Will Zalatoris (MC) and Justin Thomas (MC). There's nothing for me to say except that no one seems to be playing particularly consistent golf lately.
- Top10s: 16 for 64 (10 Top5, 6 Top10)
- Winners: 2 for 31
- Top20s: 27 for 64
Sam Burns and Scottie Scheffler are good friends. Although if Sam keeps shooting scores that are seven strokes lower to beat him on Sundays, I don't know how long the friendship will last.
Burns finished his round nearly two hours before Scheffler. But the winds changed in that two hours and I guess Burns got the better end of things.
I'm not going to make a big deal out of this; we see this kind of thing frequently. After looking to be out of the tournament early on, in the end Sam needed only one playoff hole to take his good friend down. But Sam also got the custom-built Schwab Firebird Trans Am (Schwab gets a kick out of giving a different custom car to the winner each year) and we all know that guys can go to war over a hot car!
But now they're both tied with four Limerick Summaries each. I have no idea how that competition is going to play out!
Sam posted his score early on
And waited. He seemed oh so calm.
Then Scottie said, “Hey!
You won’t beat me today!”
But he found out that Sam was the bomb.
