Sort of a Break for the LPGA

Oh, don't get me wrong. They're playing this week and the next -- ShopRite LPGA Classic and the Meijer LPGA Classic, respectively. But it's a lull between majors -- the US Women's Open last week (won by Minjee Lee) and the KPMG Women's PGA Championship at the end of the month (defending champion Nelly Korda).

This week, however, belongs to Celine Boutier, the defending champion at the ShopRite.

Defending champion Celine Boutier

Last year this event became Celine's second LPGA win and she definitely earned it, beating Jin Young Ko, Inbee Park (Rolex #2 and 3 at the time) and Brooke Henderson down the stretch. And she'll have her hands full trying to defend this year, what with 4 of the Top8 in the Rolex Rankings and several major winners in the field as well.

Of particular interest this week is Karrie Webb's return to the LPGA for one of her occasional appearances. It's just one more storyline to add to an already interesting event.

GC's coverage of the event starts Friday at noon ET. There's also a bit of history going on here as well, because CBS will cover the final round live on network TV. So just because it's not a major this week doesn't mean the LPGA is sleeping on its laurels. Should be fun!
