The Portugal Masters is the 41st of 43 events on the DP World Tour this year. This is the last event that counts toward the DP World Tour Rankings... and the last week to guarantee a Tour card for next season.
While the FedExCup has three events in its playoff series, the DP World Tour Rankings have only two — the Nedbank Golf Challenge (a 64-player field) and the DP World Tour Championship (a 50-player field). So the Portugal Masters is the make-or-break event for a lot of players, and most of them will be in the field this week.
The Portugal Masters has been held at the Dom Pedro Victoria Course (designed by Arnold Palmer) every year since its first back in 2007. It's a par-71 track measuring 7191 yards and the event has a prestigious list of winners, to which Thomas Pieters added his name last year.
