The Limerick Summary: 2023 Farmers Insurance Open

Winner: Max Homa

Around the wider world of golf: Rory McIlroy won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour; Min A Yoon won the TPS Victoria Hosted by Geoff Ogilvy on the Australasian Tour; and Roberto Nieves won the NCAA Southwestern Invitational–Men's Individual.

My Twofer Tuesday picks continue to be a case of feast or famine. I had Jon Rahm (T7) and Tom Kim (DNP). I thought I had seen Tom's name on a field list but apparently I was mistaken, and Rahm stumbled Sunday with a 74.

  • Top10s: 2 for 8 (1Top5, 1 Top10)
  • Winners: 1 for 4 events
  • Top20s: 2 for 8

But while my picks may be feast or famine, Max Homa continues to feast. Five shots out of the lead entering the final round, the three leaders — Jon Rahm, Sam Ryder and Tony Finau — all struggled and fell back while Max surged to the front with a 66, beating Keegan Bradley (also playing better over the last season or so) by 2.

This is Max's sixth PGA Tour win, and it's easy to forget that most of his wins usually boast pretty strong fields. While he has two Fortinet Championships (which were Fall Series events), he also has two Wells Fargo Championships and a Genesis Invitational. Add in this win at Torrey Pines and he's building a formidable resumé!

Many analysts expect Max to add a major to his growing list of wins in 2023. Maybe he will. But he's already got a pretty formidable list of Limerick Summaries!
