Prep for the Ryder Cup

I wanted to make a quick mention of the DS Automobiles Italian Open on the DP World Tour this week.

Defending champion Nicolai Hojgaard

Defending champion Nicolai Hojgaard will tee it up at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club this week, as will Rory McIlroy... and Rory has stated that, while he's there to win the event, he's also getting a look at the next Ryder Cup venue. (And let's face it, given his play there Hojgaard looks like a great pick for Captain Luke Donald as well, don't you think?)

While this is an important event on the DP World Tour -- I don't want to minimize that -- for many (if not most) of us, it's the fact that the course will host the next Ryder Cup that has most everybody's attention this week. And I don't think that's a bad thing because it will draw more attention to another national open on the DPWT's schedule.

Not enough to make information about the event easily available here in the States, however. That's why I haven't done a review of the event.

But I do want to mention that GC's live coverage starts Thursday morning at 7:30am ET (that's today) and runs for five hours. It's a good chance for us fans here in the US to get a preview of the venue as well as the players.
